  1. This brilliant graphic novel examines the history of witches from 775 A.D to the present You ll find much to appreciate, and I promise you ll be edified if not downright horrified at the persecution particularly aimed at women over the centuries for colluding with Satan Such persecution, from unspeakable tortures to burning at the stake is painstakingly illustrated by the talented Greg Chapman Learn about the Malleus Maleficarum and the two godly men behind it One thing I was impressed with was [...]

  2. Season of the Witch Full disclosure The publisher sent me a free copy of this book for review at my request Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live Exodus 22 18While the term witch hunts often conjures up images of the Salem Witch Trials, the truth is that those American colonists persecuted for witchcraft were but a drop in the bucket From the mid 1300s through the 1700s, tens of thousands of people were imprisoned, tortured, and executed across Europe for the crime of heresy, including practicin [...]

  3. When I purchased this book I was looking forward to read it, as the subject matter was one I had an interest in, and I haven t read a graphic novel in a long while It was pleasurable to find that Witch Hunts A Graphic History of the Burning Times, exceeded both my cravings. It isn t easy to produce a non fiction graphic novel how do you encapsulate complex concepts or events in graphical form, in just a few pages, if that While a picture may represent a thousand words, will you create the right p [...]

  4. History comes to life in this impressive graphic novel The writing packs a historical punch driven by the lore surrounding the witch hunting madness throughout the world the illustrations transport the reader to the trials and punishments of those condemned of witchcraft The Salem Witch Trials are highly publicized in history books however, Witch Hunts delves deeper into lesser known witchcraft condemnations throughout Europe Most of the stories are in chronological order with each illustration [...]

  5. While I am vaguely familiar with the history of witch hunting, I never fully grasped the misogynistic aspect or the sheer motivation of greed and thirst for power political and religious This graphic history whetted my appetite to delve into it further It is an excellent primer to those interested in learning about the history Yes, a graphic novel that encouraged me to finish it in one sitting and walk away with knowledge than a two hour movie and still be entertained The illustrations are note [...]

  6. I ve been FaceBook friends with Greg for a while now and love his work both his written word and his artwork An ARC of Dark Screams published by Cemetery Dance Publications recently exposed me to the mind of Lisa Morton Rocky Wood, well, if you don t know who he is was , you have no business reading anything in the horror genre So, when I found out that the three of these brilliant people collaborated on a graphic novel wild horses couldn t keep me away from getting my hands on a copy and I did, [...]

  7. A very good book I have learnt so much reading Witch Hunts A Graphic History of the Burning Times As quite a strong Feminist, it was sometimes quite distressing to read and I did have tears well up at some point, as one does when reading anything so shocking I was taken aback in one part, as I personally have a strawberry mark on the back of my neck, so if I was born in those times, I would be considered a witch and tortured and burned at the stake Congratulations to the authors, Rocky Wood and [...]

  8. I actually had high hopes for this project and 3 of 5 Stars means I liked it, but it failed to live up to my expectations After all, when you have two Stoker Award winning authors in Rocky Wood and Lisa Morton, as well as, upcoming Australian writer and illustrator, Greg Chapman, you have to expect the best. What I saw was really nothing than an essay of material on witch hunting in the US and Europe coupled with some exceptional line art from Chapman to bring the text to life.I realize this is [...]

  9. I didn t really know much about witch hunting but I when I saw this graphic novel I just couldn t wait to get my hands on it It isn t for everyone There is some nudity so if you aren t into reading graphic novels with nudity then I suggest you do not read this one but if you are like me and nudity in books movies tv doesn t bother you than I highly recommend this good graphic novel Also some of the illustrations are a gruesome but personally that doesn t bother me either. This is dark, interestin [...]

  10. If you don t like boring history books then this is a good alternative But only if you are interested in the history of witches and witch hunting This picturesque graphic novel will take you through the timeline of how the accusations began and how they were used as a means of stealing property and getting rid of those they didn t want to deal with Perhaps some of them just got very into torturing others as well There is a lot to be learned here The graphics may make you squirm a little but it i [...]

  11. Not a regular of graphic novels, I very much enjoyed Witch Hunts One part history lesson, but also an intriguing story unveiling the atrocities associated with the torture, indictment and burning of witches throughout history Not to mention the incredible artwork on every page from the talented Greg Chapman And with the recent Stoker win added to its credibility, Witch Hunts comes highly recommended.

  12. An interesting exploration of the history of witch hunting throughout the world This is a good primer for someone who wants a broad survey of the places, times, and people involved in the witch trials That artwork is creepy, which only lends to the atmosphere of the book.

  13. Brilliant non fiction graphic novel, telling the history of witch hunts through the ages Full review being written.

  14. This is an intense book with intense artwork However, it s the artwork that truly depicts the horror of what happened during this particular course of history It s easy to detach when there are only words to read, but when you see the depictions of the variety of victims mostly women, but some men too all disliked or outcast in some way well, it s effective. However, the words work here too Whether intentionally or not, the authors draw a distinct thread through these hysterias and persecutions I [...]

  15. I may or may not go back and finish this but this is easily one of the worst books I ve ever read and I can t believe it won a Stoker award What misogynist, exploitative trash.

  16. Witch Hunts A Graphic History of the Burning Times, Rocky Woods, Lisa Morton, Greg ChapmanBy Laura BullerAugust 5, 2014 This graphic novel was different and interesting in that it is a non fiction graphic novel I enjoy history We quite often think of the Salem Witch Trials when we hear the term witch hunts however, this portrayal of witch hunts goes much farther and presents a controversial issue from a wider perspective, including the thousands of individuals in Europe who were tortured and exe [...]
