  2. Incredibly handy reference work, containing biographical information for major writers, definitions of literary terms, entries for characters, literary movements and genres, historical figures who are featured in major works of literature, mythology, and Every edition contains slightly different information, as new writers and styles are added and older, now unfashionable ones are dropped, so it s optimal to get a copy of each I only have the third edition now, after downsizing my library I hav [...]

  4. This is an indispensible book for the serious reader I note that Tara S is currently reading Absalom, Absalom, and I am reminded that it was given to me as a gift after we read that book in book club in 1990 I own the third edition.

  5. When I was 16, my high school librarian, my mentor and guardian angel, gave me a copy of the Second Edition I literally read it from cover to cover I returned to it over and over, for specific information or for random pleasure No other book has influenced the path of my reading as much I have not seen the later editions but I do hope they have maintained the same excellence.

  6. The book that helped me function as an English major, although no matter how many times I read the definition of postmodernism, I couldn t fully explain it in my own words This book taught me the endless pleasure of the see also reference, looping from word to word, concept to conceptking it quite hard to return to whatever paper topic was originally at hand I move this to the read section even though this is a source that one will never finish

  7.
